Distance education can be a very good option for people who live far away from campus or have a hectic schedule, but is it right for you? This type of study means less visual learning like you would get in a classroom, and more self-discipline to learn the material on your own.

Read the following questions and answer "Always", "Most of the Time", "Sometimes", or "When I Feel Like It" to each one.

  • Are you motivated to learn the subject?
  • Do you have 9-12 hours of time a week to devote to a 3 credit class?
  • Do you work well independently?
  • Do you have strong reading and writing skills?
  • Does your performance depend on how your peers perform?
  • Are you good at keeping yourself on task to complete a project?
  • Are you comfortable with the required technology, i.e., video, CD, internet?
  • Do you have, or have access to, a computer with internet access?

If you answered most questions with  "Always", "Most of the Time", then distance education may be the right choice for you.

If you answered "Sometimes", or "When I Feel Like It",  then live, face to face classes may be more suited to your learning style.
