The Latest News from President Young

August is just around the corner, and one of the best things about this time of year—as we head into the dog days of summer—is looking forward to the county fairs. There’s something about the excitement of the fair that truly brings a sense of community. From the exhibits and rodeo to the animals and, of course, the unforgettable fair food—especially those deep-fried treats I can’t resist—it’s a summer time event everyone can enjoy.

As always, Treasure Valley Community College (TVCC) will have a recruitment table at both the Malheur County and Payette County Fairs. We invite you to stop by and say hello to our friendly staff and volunteers. At our table, you can pick up recruitment brochures, learn more about our nursing and career and technical ed programs, grab some candy, and even enter to win a fun raffle prize—just be sure to fill out an interest card to enter! I want to thank Cassandra, Owen, and the rest of the TVCC team for putting in the long hours to be available at these fairs.

Earlier this summer, I mentioned that TVCC is in the process of rebranding, and I’m excited to share that we are now in the final stages of releasing a draft of our refreshed logo. I’ve heard some questions in the community about whether we’re changing the name of TVCC or making changes to our mascot. To be clear, the answer to both is no. We will proudly remain Treasure Valley Community College—because why change a good thing, right? We are, after all, the treasure in eastern Oregon. And yes, the Chukar will continue to be our beloved mascot. While the faithful upland bird may soon sport a slightly updated and more modern look, its spirit will remain unchanged. We are excited about the progress to rebrand our image and hope that you will be too.

The TVCC admissions and recruitment teams have been hard at work preparing for the upcoming fall quarter. As part of these efforts, we’ve launched the “It’s Time to Apply” campaign, which will run through September. This campaign is focused on encouraging prospective students to take the next step and register at TVCC. Please note that fall quarter classes begin on September 29. If you know someone interested in attending TVCC, please direct them to the admissions page at https://www.tvcc.cc/admissions/apply.cfm.

I would also like to take a moment to congratulate our incoming Board Chair, Stephen Crow, and incoming Vice Chair, Betty Carter. I’m grateful for their willingness to step into these important leadership roles. Their contributions will bring added value and expertise to the board, especially with Betty serving as a liaison to the Foundation Board and Stephen representing us on the Oregon Community College Association board. These roles as well as the roles of our entire board provide valuable connections and insights that will strengthen our work and mission - to be a comprehensive community college dedicated to promoting student success.
