TVCC Board of Education Update

The TVCC Board of Education and Foundation Board came together to share dinner and discuss how the boards could further promote the College and share with the community the great things that are happening at TVCC.  There were several great suggestions made in the areas of communication and increasing visibility and awareness both on and off campus. This annual board get-together is always a great opportunity for board members to learn more about their roles and how their work is vital to student success.

President Dana Young had the opportunity to join colleagues on October 13 in Portland, Oregon to present the All In: Student Pathways Forward podcast. During the presentation Dr. Young provided an overview of Treasure Valley Community College, and spoke about TVCC student, James Toms, who was featured in the TVCC episode of the podcast where he shares his experience as a returning college student and how programs and support services at TVCC has helped him in his educational path.  To listen to the audio podcast go to:

The annual Chukar Fall Festival was held at the Weese Building on Tuesday, October 4th after a long 3-year absence. Nearly 350 students, staff, faculty, and community members were in attendance to welcome in the 2022-2023 school year. The event included a free barbeque sponsored by the TVCC Foundation, introductions to athletic teams and campus organizations, Minute to Win it Competitions, and a dance party for students. The Associated Student Government is grateful to those that attended this traditional event and were thrilled with the success of the evening.

In August, President Dana Young, Vice President of Academic Affairs Eddie Alves, Associate Vice President Abby Lee, Director Ben Merrill, and faculty members Marcus Nichols, Sandy Porter and Justin Blazzard flew to Golden, Colorado to tour NREL facilities and meet with engineers, project analysts, and managers to learn more about renewable energy opportunities. The visit provided an in-depth look into the renewable energy field and how this field could lead to program expansion and development at TVCC.

The College was recently awarded $2.5 million dollars to infuse renewable energy into TVCC of which TVCC will receive $1.25 million dollars immediately to develop a program plan on how we will use these funds to create a sustainable program at TVCC.  The overall goal is to create apprenticeship and pre-apprenticeship opportunities in a new renewable energy program, as well as, within existing TVCC programs.  The CTE faculty and staff are excited about the potential and the opportunities this presents for the College.

The TVCC Foundation kicked off an Internal Campaign for the new Nursing & Allied Health Professions Center on September 20 during Inservice Week.  The theme for the campaign was “TVCC Loves a Healthy Future.” Many faculty and staff on campus made donations or pledges to support the fundraising effort during the five-week campaign.
